After an inspection by the professionals at Master Roof, the roof was found to be quite old and nearing the end of its useful life.  The chimney was also leaking, and the roof showed several signs that leaks were about to happen: the gutters were missing nails, nail pops in several places on the roof, buckled shingles, missing shingles on the ridge vents, and signs of water intrusion in the attic.

After examining all options, the homeowner decided to replace the entire roof and address all issues. So the Master Roof team tackled the job using quality GAF materials to ensure that the roof over the home and garage were watertight and long-lasting.

• The old roofing materials were removed, along with the ridge vent.
• GAF Storm Guard underlayment was installed to provide a watertight base and guard against ice dams.
• The flashing along the house flashing and garage roof was repaired to ensure no water could seep into the home.
• The boot pipe was replaced with the Ultimate Boot Pipe.
• The unused satellite antenna was removed to reduce roof penetrations and potential leaks.
• The chimney flashing was replaced using a 3-layer system:

Ice & Water membrane around the chimney extending 6" up the brick.

Step flashing installed with each shingle.

Lead flashing is used at corners and a final layer of lead counter flashing for added protection.

• The roof ventilation was repaired to ensure that all soffit vents were working properly as well as adding a new ridge cap and with the proper GAF ridge shingles.
• A recommendation was made to re-point or re-mortar the chimney to cure places where the mortar was pulling away from the brick.
• Also, the Master Roof team recommended replacing the gutters to address areas where the guttering was pulling away from the fascia.
